For these Brown Sugar Bacon-Wrapped Smokies, you’re going to want a 9X13-inch baking dish or a baking pan with a lip so that the melted butter and sugar doesn’t drip into your oven.
While you’re cooking the smokies, the juices will start bubbling in the pan so you want to make sure there is enough room to expand without overflowing
For these Bacon-Wrapped Smokies, you’ll want to use a high-quality bacon.
I’m a big fan of Wright Brand bacon. It’s thicker-cut bacon and has really great flavor. I chose the hickory smoked bacon for my Brown Sugar Bacon-wrapped Smokies and they were delicious.
Start by cutting your bacon into thirds. You want enough bacon to fully wrap around the Lit’l Smokies, but not so much that you’ll have a bunch of excess hanging over the side.
Wrap a bacon piece around each Lit’l Smokie sausage then secure it with a toothpick. Make sure you stick the toothpicks in there good so that the bacon doesn’t come loose. No loose bacon, please.
Combine your melted butter and brown sugar in a small bowl. You can use a pastry brush to gently brush the butter sugar mixture onto the Bacon-Wrapped Sausages, but I just spoon a little over the top of each one.
Remember how I said the juices will bubble up in the pan? When this happens, the sausages will get nice and happy in all the sweet buttery goodness.
After the Brown Sugar Bacon-Wrapped Smokies are baked, I like to turn on the broiler in my oven for a few minutes to really crisp up the bacon. You have to be really careful and watch them closely so that the sugar doesn’t burn.
It’ll only take about 3-5 minutes under the broiler before your appetizers are done. I hope you made enough because these will definitely not last long at your party.
