We Tried The Tik Tok Donut Dump Cake
This Donut Dump Cake starts off with donuts from your favorite shop.

Next we’re adding milk, cake mix, and butter to make a donut dump cake.

Is this a breakfast item because of the donuts? Or totally a dessert?

You decide!

KEY TO SUCCESS #1 – USE A STURDY DONUT
We’re using bakery-style donuts for the base of our dump cake so it makes sense that we’ll need the perfect donuts.

You want to look for sturdy yeast donuts for this recipe.

We used Krispy Kreme donuts and they were a bit too delicate to hold up to all the toppings that we added on top of them.

Look for a thick donut with a nice glaze on the top.

I used six whole donuts and then I cut one donut into fourth and stuffed the pieces between the whole donuts to really fill up the pan.

This recipe would work with only six donuts just as easily.

KEY TO SUCCESS #2 – TWO TYPES OF MILK
Our Dump Cake recipes uses both evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk.

You will need one large can of each type of milk.

If you’re not familiar with evaporated milk, it can often be found in the baking aisle near the chocolate chips.

You can substitute any type of milk for the evaporated milk.

I think almond milk would be really good. You could even use regular 2% milk.

Start by pouring the evaporated milk all over the donuts.

Even pour it in the holes of the donuts.
Tip! To open a can of evaporated milk, shake the can then use a can opener to cut a 1-inch slit into one side of the lid.

Then turn the can of milk halfway around and puncture another hole with the can opener.
The smaller hole will allow air in so that the liquid will easily flow out the other side slowly without spilling everywhere.

After the evaporated milk, drizzle the sweetened condensed milk over the donuts.

Do not mix.

KEY TO SUCCESS #3 – DUMP THE CAKE
Okay, maybe dump is not the right way to describe it.

Sprinkle the dry cake mix all over the top of the milk and donuts in the casserole dish.

It’s okay if some of the cake mix sinks down to the bottom.

Try to cover the entire surface of the casserole dish with the dry cake mix.

You can use the back of a spoon to spread the cake mix to the edges of the dish if it’s not smooth.

Next, cut one and a half sticks of butter into small tabs.

The thinner the better on this one.

You want lots of little pieces of butter so that you can cover as much surface area with butter as possible.

Covering the cake mix with butter will ensure that all of the cake mix is moistened and you are not left with dry cake mix on the top of your cake.

THE VERDICT

We didn’t love it and we didn’t hate it.

Our donuts were pretty soggy and we had a lot of dry cake mix left on the top.

We should have used less cake mix and distributed our butter tabs more evenly for better results.

Overall, it was overly sweet and a little too soggy for our taste.

It might have been better if there was something in there to give it some crunch and texture and maybe a little bit of salt to balance things out.

If you try it, let us know what you think!
