Both of my kids helped make these and they loved it!
You’ll need an adult to help with the hot knife, but the kids can do most of the rest of it themselves.
For our Easter Bunny Hot Cocoa Bombs, you will need a hollow chocolate bunny.
I used a 3-ounce Russell Stover hollow milk chocolate bunny and it worked perfectly.
Your bunny can be smaller than this because 3 ounces of chocolate made for a very chocolatey drink.
But for a special treat, it worked fine and the kids loved it.
If you can find a smaller hollow chocolate bunny, you can use a smaller one just as easily.
Look for the hollow bunnies at your local grocery store or big box store like Target or Walmart.
If you can’t find one there, check your pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens.
Sometimes they carry a different selection of holiday candy than the other stores around town.
One of my best tips is to use a VERY HOT and sharp knife to cut through the hollow chocolate bunny.
You want to melt through it more than slice through it.
If you just slice into the hollow bunny with a sharp knife, it is likely to crack the bunny into pieces instead of cleanly cutting through it.
You have a few options to get your knife hot.
My preferred method is running the knife under very hot water then drying it with a towel before slicing the bunny.
It’s critical to dry the knife before using it on the chocolate though.
If you have a gas stove, you can hold the knife over the flame for a few seconds to heat the blade.
Or you can use a lighter to heat up the knife blade.
Start slowly melting through the chocolate.
If you need to re-heat the knife halfway through, you can do that.
It’s better to reheat the blade again than risk cracking the bunny because it will be hard to reseal a cracked bunny.
Once the bunny is sliced, it’s best to work quickly to stuff it and put the bottom on it before the chocolate cools and hardens.
Make sure your cocoa mix and marshmallows are readily available.
If your bunny is large like mine is, you can use a spoon to fill the bunny with cocoa mix then drop in a few marshmallows and you’re ready to reseal it.
If not, you may need a small funnel to get the cocoa mix into the bunny.
Finally, simply place the bottom of the chocolate bunny back into place.
You may need to hold the bottom into place for a few seconds while the chocolate firms up.
If your chocolate has already hardened, you can remelt the bottom of the bunny by placing it on a plate that has been held under hot water then dried.
Or you can place a small plate into the microwave for about 20 seconds then hold the bottom of the bunny onto it until the chocolate starts to slightly melt.
