The Galaxy S10 Lite gave us the first taste of Galaxy S20's design language |
Samsung is apparently prepping a new member of the Galaxy S20 family, thought to be launching after the Note 20 series and Galaxy Fold 2, in October 2020
Samsung looks to be readying another member of its Galaxy S20 lineup for October this year - thought to be called the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition.
Samsung kicked 2020 off with one of the most confusingly-named devices in its current lineup: the Galaxy S10 Lite.
Despite being one of the company's first launches of the year, the device harkened back to its namesake - the rest of the S10 series - all of which had arrived almost 12 months earlier. At the same time, the phone sported what we would soon discover to be the design language of Samsung's first 2020 flagships - the S20 series.

Just to add to the confusion, only ten months later, Samsung appears to be launching what's believed to be the S10 Lite's successor; with a new upper mid-range entrant in the S20 series. At least it's launching within the same year this time.
According to ETNews, Samsung is looking to bolster its H2, 2020 smartphone sales, after the economic effects of the global pandemic undermined its targets for the first half of the year - particularly in April. To do this, it's planning on placing a new handset on sale every month from August through to October.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the long-rumoured Galaxy Note 20 series occupies the August spot, while the Galaxy Fold 2, which is already rumoured to go on sale in September, serves as the following month's entrant.
That leaves an unclaimed spot that ETNews' report suggests will be filled by a device which Samsung is referring to internally as the 'Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition'. It's unclear whether this name will stick, as it would be a notable departure from any current convention that Samsung uses, but beyond that, there's little information on the device itself at present.
Separately, sources have told SamMobile that this mysterious S20 variant will launch in three colours: Prism Blue, Prism White and Prism Violet, and sport 128GB of internal storage.
We'll update this feature with more details as they become available.
