When you create a website with WordPress it needs to be “hosted” on a web server to be accessible to the public. You may well have heard of some website hosting companies such as GoDaddy and Hostinger.
But which company and which hosting package is best? We will be recommending the best choices for hosting your WordPress website.
There are several different types of hosting, such as VPS where your site is hosted on its own virtual server but most people will find that shared hosting is the best option when starting up. Read on, though, to find out what some of the big hosting providers offer. We've highlighted their best value WordPress hosting packages.
Hostinger Premium Shared hosting

Hostinger has been around for a number of years and has built a solid reputation with over 27 million subscribers.
The company's Premium Shared Hosting plan is $2.89 (£2.15) per month for the first 12 months.
Although this is not Hostinger’s cheapest plan, it offers the best value as, in addition to 20GB of disk space you get unlimited add-on domains and unlimited bandwidth. Plus, you get a free domain registration for the first year.
Hostinger’s hosting plans all include one-click WordPress installation, fast caching of WordPress plugins, 99.9% uptime guarantee and 24/7 customer support. You have to pay extra for SSL certificates and so this may be a drawback, if for instance you are launching an e-commerce website.
HostGator Starter
- From $2.75 per month
HostGator is one of the best-known brands in the hosting industry and has been in business for nearly two decades.
It has built its business on providing reliable low-cost and flexible web hosting. The Hatchling plan at $2.75 (£2.15) per month offers one-click WordPress installation, unlimited disk space, unlimited bandwidth and free SSL certificates. But you can only host one domain, which means only one website.
HostGator’s shared hosting, with its 1-click WordPress install and starting at $2.75 (£2.15) per month should be sufficient for your WordPress hosting.
However HostGator also offers dedicated WordPress hosting which provides faster load times (up to a claimed 2.5x) and superior caching. If this appeals, then the WordPress Starter Plan is $5.95 (approx. £4.75) per month. You get unlimited disk space, unlimited bandwidth, daily backups and free SSL certificates.
You also get a free domain for a year with all WordPress and shared hosting plans. This together with 99.9% uptime and 24/7 customer support makes HostGator a very attractive proposition.
If you want two domains rather than just one, the Standard WordPress package only costs $2 (£1.60) more per month.
GoDaddy Basic
- From $5.99 per month
The US-based company GoDaddy is one of the giants of the hosting world with servers across the world. These include European servers located in Amsterdam.
GoDaddy’s cheapest package starts with the Basic package at £2.99 / $6.99 per month and this gives you 30GB of disk space for one website and a free domain.
You will need to go to the Ultimate package which starts at £6.99 / $12.99 per month if you need a free SSL certificate included. You'd want one if you plan to collect any personal information from customers, and it's also a plus in Google's eyes.
Although GoDaddy offers UK pricing and 24/7 support using a UK phone number, if you feel that having UK-based servers is important then GoDaddy may not be your best option.
Bluehost Basic
- From $3.95 per month
All of Bluehost’s WordPress hosting packages offer automatic WordPress installation and updates, free domain name registration for a year and free SSL certificates, which is a bonus.
The Basic package costs £3.08 / $3.95 per month for the first year although if you want to host multiple domains you will need the Plus package.
The Basic plan offers 50GB of SSD disk space and unmetered bandwidth. Although there are many hosting companies who meet WordPress minimum requirements, Bluehost is one of only three hosting companies recommended by WordPress.org, and that should persuade a lot of people to pick Bluehost over some of its rivals.
TsoHost Economy
- From $4.99 per month
WordPress hosting from UK-based TsoHost starts at £3.99 per month for the Economy package when you sign up for 12 months.
This includes hosting for a single website with domain name registration included 100GB of storage and unmetered bandwidth.
TsoHost uses the popular cPanel control panel with one-click app installs (including WordPress of course) and offer 99.9% uptime. Unlike some other providers free SSL certificates are not provided, so if required this will cost you around £21 extra for the first year and £42 thereafter.
